What will banks of the 21st century look like? Well not like you think! According to Professor Jem Bendell Rebuild21 speaker we need to rethink the concept of banks and currencies for a more sustainable 21st century. Jem Bendell is a professor and the owner-director of Lifeworth Consulting, providing solutions for systemic change towards sustainable development. For 16 years he has consulted with business, United Nations (UN) and civil society, while writing over 100 publications on the social responsibility of organisations.
Building confidence in alternative currencies and mutual credit systems will be extremely difficult to implement when technology’s impact is to destroy traditional “job” employment with the non-human factor (superautomation, machines, robotics, digital computerization, etc) exponentially being developed and employed in the production and delivery of products and services, while under the current financial system the ownership of the productive capital assets continues to concentrate in the top 1 percent, leaving the poorest 99 percent with no opportunity to earn a livable income. Thus, income inequality will continue to widen and undermine social systems.
