The soon-to-be-former Indiana senator addressed the rigidity of the GOP.
On Sunday, May 27, 2012 on CBS’ “Face The Nation,” Senator Richard Lugar said:
“A large part of the Republican Party of Indiana believed, apparently, in the idea of individualism as opposed to community, a sense of no compromise as opposed to talking across the aisle.”
Lugar said he had no plans to campaign for nominee Richard Mourdock but has been giving his former opponent advice.
And he blamed outside groups by name — “FreedomWorks, Club for Growth, Grover Norquist” — for turning his state into a negative ad “playground.”
