Walter Reuther, president of the United Auto Workers, talks to Wallace about his plan for profit sharing for auto workers, which was being attacked as a “giant step toward socialism.”
Norman G Kurland: Walter Reuther’s extremely intelligent responses to Mike Wallace was done just prior to Kelso and Adler’s publication in 1958 of “The Capitalist Manifesto.” Reuther would then have added “full ownership” as the goal that would have created full production, without taking property rights from existing capital owners. Reuther chaired the Citizens Crusade Against Poverty in 1965-68 when, as CCAP’s director of policy, I was able to have Kelso invited to our first national conference. If Reuther adopted Kelso’s Just Third Way and had not been killed in a 1970 aircraft, he could have been elected president. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUf51M9D6sw
